You know those charming, picturesque places; when you visit them you wish you could live there? It’s an illusion. Like Disneyland. I’ve made that mistake more than once. Nerja, Spain. Anacortes, Washington. Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. On the flip side, there are places that visiting is simply not enough. Madrid, Spain cannot really be experienced properly in a day, a week, or a month. I lived in Madrid for 3 years. Nerja for a year. I would happily live in Madrid. Nerja is like that gorgeous person you date but living with them would be a nightmare. You can be nostalgic for your childhood home, your childhood bedroom, your first crush, but you can certainly never go back. It’s temporary, and that’s the magic. Nothing is what it once was. That’s for your memory. This ride is not as long as you thought it was as a child. Don’t let your expectations get in the way of your enjoyment of what is. Misery is a feeling not a way of life. Joy is a way of life.
